Styled after a chair some say dates back to 5th century Ireland with origins in a hamlet known as Tuam (pronounced "choom"), this sturdy chair is a wonderful accent piece perfectly at home in a corner nook or beside a fireplace hearth. Surprisingly comfortable and with a unique style all its own, it would also be suitable around a dining table.
Available in white oak, maple, or ash, finished with all natural tung oil and plant based waxes.
The bold through mortises for the seat and stretcher are locked with tusk tenons, and the legs are through mortised to the seat and locked with wedges. Hidden in the piece are massive, deep mortises and tenons that ensure uncompromised strength in its construction.
This design is very bold and masculine in its overall presentation, but has many gentle curves, tapers, and angles that delight the eye with their subtlety.
